The Fab Four-short for ‘ Fabulous Four ’- is a term stamped by cricket pundits that clubs together the top four Test batters of the current period- India’s Virat Kohli, Joe Root, Steve Smith, and New Zealand’s Kane Williamson.

While 33- time-old Smith has now hit 28 Test tons in just 87 matches, Root has scored the same number of centuries in 121 Test matches since making his debut in 2012. Root’s latest century came against India at Edgbaston, where he guided England to a thrilling win.


Joe Root’s unbeaten 142 was his 11th Test century since 2021, and fifth in 2022.

Meanwhile, Smith equaled Root after he smashed an unbeaten 145- run innings off 272 balls against Sri Lanka in another Test at Galle International Stadium in July.
